My Experience With The Fitness Studio So Far
I signed up for a fitness studio near me in early May. McFit had a special offer going on where I would pay 5€ for the first two months and then 30€ afterwards for a plan that would normally cost 50€. Ever since the signup, I’ve gone there five times total. I was unsure if training at the fitness studio would be for me or if it was a better investment for me to find other physically engaging activities like a badminton club or buying a bike, seeing as it’s quite a bit of money a month and I may lose interest before I’m allowed to cancel. However, this special offer included the possibility to cancel with every month and that’s a blessing.
I’m generally not the type to commit to an activity, especially if it requires continuous payment. Back when I played guitar, I would ask myself if it all was worth it and if I was getting my money’s worth out of it. This is what growing up dirt poor did to my brain, I’m afraid. I would worry I’m putting a strain on our house finances with no gain even when my parents gave no indication of anything like that. It felt like a responsibility that would take from the fun of learning an instrument. Now I’m paying for the fitness studio from my own money and I’m fully aware of the cost but also the degree it is affecting my overall finances which is actually very little. Nonetheless, my brain wiring hasn’t changed along with my financial situation so I still find myself stuck in loops of weighing the pros and cons of the fitness studio.
One thing I know for sure: McFit is not for me. It lacks some of the instruments I need for my fitness routines and the studio in my vicinity isn’t that big or organized. The weight lifting section is chaotic and unorganized which makes finding the correct weight feel like a hunt in the woods. So I’m considering signing up for FITINN which is where my brother and everyone else I know is at. I took him once with me to McFit (another one of my member benefits) so he would compare the two and he called it “a day and night difference.” However, FITINN has a contractual commitment of one year which is standard in the fitness studio space, I guess, but I don’t like having to pay for something when I don’t want it.
In any case, I’ve already cancelled McFit, but I still have access to it through July. In the meantime, I’ll continue to evaluate if the fitness studio is for me or if I should look elsewhere. One thing is clear to, though: I need to be physically active on a regular basis because it’s good for my health, obviously, and also helps me relieve my ADHD a little.
