Only Yesterday π₯
Such a beautiful story about a girl’s upbringing and how it relates to her present admiration of nature. With her dream to play in theater plays crushed by her dad for no reason, she became a ghost of who she was, always lost and never knowing what to do with her life. She takes her vacations on farms and β as a city girl β she sees everything green that isn’t the fields as untouched nature which she learns is a misconception.
The scenery she admires is the product of a struggle to get out of nature what humans needed to survive over millennia. My favorite plot line was when the girls learn about their periods and then get teased for it. One of the girls had an enlightened mother who taught her that there was no reason to be ashamed for something so natural. She shares that with the other girls and it seems like that was a tipping point for Taeko.
