Bearblog Questions Challenge
Seeing as there is a challenge making the rounds I thought I would join in on the fun!
-
Why did you make the blog in the first place? I was trying to escape social media but without not being online. I started this blog to talk about why I wanted to distance myself from social media, how I was doing that and just to have an outlet for my thoughts and frustrations. I didn’t think I would commit to it in the long run, but turn out I was wrong.
-
Why did you choose Bearblog? I started out using Micro.blog, but quickly went looking elsewhere. The platform could do a lot and is really great, but it was overwhelming for me as someone who didn’t know how to code beyond some simple HTML and CSS. Bearblog on the other hand was simple and straightforward enough for a beginner like me. It could do all the things I was looking for (a place for long form posts) and it was (is!) reasonably priced.
-
Have you blogged on other platforms before? Not really. I used Micro.blog for two weeks and then migrated to Bearblog soon after.
-
Do you write your posts directly in the editor or in another software? I write 95% of my posts in my favorite note taking app and markdown editor Bear Notes. I sometimes edit my posts in the editor, but rough ideas are always formulated inside of Bear first.
-
When do you feel most inspired to write? When showering. I get my best ideas in the shower and it’s rare for me to remember my thoughts, wording and key arguments once I can actually write it all down.
-
Do you publish immediately after writing or do you let it simmer a bit as a draft? This depends on how complete I consider the post to be. Based on my track record, I’m more likely to hit post too quickly and then backpedal on that than let something sit in the drafts for a while before going ahead and posting.
-
Your favorite post on your blog? Ooh, this is like asking a parent for their favorite child. If I had to pick, I’d probably go with either Is it a right for a country to exist? or Human rights are concessions, not a given.

Any future plans for your blog? Maybe a redesign, changing the tag system, etc.? Recently, I’ve been working on making everything I use as simple as possible. So what I have done is assign more descriptive tags and a maximum of one tag per post. I’ve also simplified my nav, cleaned up the CSS, and ironed out any inconsistencies in my blog’s design. So I’ll probably keep on simplifying the design and ironing out inconsistencies as I stumble across them, especially when it comes to how my blog appears on mobile devices.
